Field Trip Anyone?
GAF Coating Seminar
Regardless of age, “field trips” mean one thing - away from the office & typical daily grind! And today was just that with our Supply Building Reps from GAF Roofing.
To give you the rundown, GAF Roofing hosted a hands-on Intro-101 seminar on TPO coatings to Commercial, 'flat roofs. The best part more importantly, was the little kid in me screaming when I realized that, not only could I create the best pinata for my next pool party, but I can totally get your kids next science project to be paper-mache leak proof, when applying the GAF Liquid Membrane of Hydro-stop Correctly! Someone say A+ on your kids Volcano science project, if so call me, we can totally DIY! Not only that cool, but getting to play with a high powered spray paint gun and learning to apply seal paint coatings to flat commercial roofing systems was awesome. Yes, please! On the adult side of this Shawn, showed us how properly apply roof coating technologies, when coatings are sprayed. All I could think was the endless possibilities of how beneficial spray sealant technology is and why I am not starting my own company given how much of a perfectionist I am...Shawn you may have competition in the future!
The big takeaway from being out in the field today, as design professionals ( yes Roofer), is we should be looking to help our property owners and share with them the knowledge of knowing upgrading their roof system does not have to be a burden, they can love roofing! As the professional in the industry taking & applying these educational industry techniques will only add value in the field, if we educate our property owners and introduce them return and value they can receive.Tear-offs of commercial roofs can be extremely costly and not to mention can disrupt business functions, I would be lying to you all, if I didn’t say this but we lost business this past year because we were not educated in coatings and the cost effective benefits they have for property owners.
We as Roofers need to make Property Owners feel comfortable with the products we decide to use as professionals & educate ourselves as well as our customers. I say be the change in Roofing, because I love what you do!
